This world famous Nilaveli beach in Sri Lanka is ideally suited for sun bathing and diving. This shallow beach goes up to half a mile into the sea. A few metres from the coast are a small rocky island good for snorkelling. This, only 8 miles from Trincomalee once possessed the chief slattern in the South- East of Sri Lanka. Be serenaded by the turquoise blue ripples of the Indian Ocean as you step on to the most coveted sands of Sri Lanka's eastern coast. Hemmed by smooth pearl white foam that splashes onto the golden beach, the Nilaveli waves will enthrall you no end.
The calm and beauty are almost therapeutic, the panoramic views are awe- inspiring and anyone who visits is guaranteed to come back for more. Between April and October is the best time to visit the Eastern seashore, but it is always possible to pop into the sea for a swim. Amazingly it is also possible to walk in to the ocean bed for hundreds of feet with the water twirling just around your waist. Those who enjoy snorkeling, scuba diving and fishing will find these glistening blue waters and the warm weather ideal as well. The beach has ample water sports facilities including fishing and sea angling. Nilaveli is ideally suited for sun bathing and diving.
